People love underdog stories. They love it when a team overcomes all odds in an effort to make something of their season. This is why movies that highlight underdogs are so popular. It is why people are captivated when a club climbs all the way up the table in their first or second season in a new league. Nivea also loves underdog stories, but the company recognises that these stories don’t just happen for no good reason. If an underdog story is going to take place, it will take place for a reason. Nivea has put on the Great Football Experiment to prove that underdogs can succeed when the proper preparation is in place.

This underdog story started with a call to action. Nivea is a company that recognises something important. That is, if any underdog is going to have a chance, it will need to be armed with the right resources. That is why Nivea prepared for the Great Football Experiment by lining up resources for whatever team it chose. From there, the company encouraged amateur teams to apply. It ended up choosing Ivory, F.C., a special bunch that hail from Essex. The club was a simple Sunday League team, full of players that you have never heard of. Nivea had the goal of turning this Sunday League team into a team that could possibly compete with the most respected players in the entire world.

The Great Football Experiment was somewhat simple. Take these underdogs and put them under the coaching of guys who really know what they are doing. Those coaches, in this instance, were Ray Wilkins and Terry Venables. These legendary coaches were counted on to provide guidance to the players and train them as a team. The training was such that Ivory saw marked improvements over the course of a few months. The underdogs ended up getting a chance to take on a team of English legends. Not only did the underdogs show up and make good on the experiment, but they actually played well enough to take down the English legends by a two to one score.
